A friend of mine wanted to try using a treatment with pure essential oils for a Bartholin’s gland cyst.
What is a Bartholin's gland?
The Bartholin's gland is a tiny organ on each of the labia minora (vaginal lips) just outside the opening to the vagina. If the vagina were the face of a clock, the Bartholin glands would be found at about 4 and 8 o'clock. Normally they are so tiny that they are invisible. During sexual arousal the Bartholin’s gland releases a lubricating fluid. A Barholin’s gland cyst develops when the gland becomes blocked. The gland can become blocked for a variety of reasons, such as an infection, inflammation, long term irritation, or poor circulation. When blockage occurs a round swelling called a cyst forms that can grow to the size of an orange, though most only get as large as the size of a golf ball. Cysts can become tender though not always.
I made a blend of pure essential oils for my friend to try in a Seitz bath.
Bartholin Gland Essential Oil Formula:
Cypress (astringent to increase circulation and assist drainage)
Juniperberry (detoxifier)
Lavender, High Altitude (anti-inflammatory)
To 15ml bottle: 125 drops each of Cypress and Juniperberry, and 50 drops of Lavender
Directions: Use 3-4 drops Bartholin’s Gland EO formula in a carrier of Epson salts (1/2 cup) added to a Seitz bath. Soak for 10-15 minutes, once a day. If you don't notice a change in the cyst or symptoms of discomfort within a few hours after your soak you may repeat.

Hi KG,
Thanks so much for the EO formula. The gland started draining Saturday night (1 day after beginning treatment) and it's nearly back to normal (Sunday night), 2 days after beginning treatment. It was very simple to treat it with 4 Seitz baths and essential oils. Seems like a good thing to let people know about — on the web there was so much fear about having a Bartholin's gland cyst or infected gland, and resignation to having it lanced by a doctor to solve the problem.

i've had a cyst for quite some time...I was wondering if the treatment will work for cyst that have been present longer?

Does this really heal the cyst or just temporarily reduce the inflammation and it will come right back? I find it amazing to think it could actually heal it.

Hi KG,
I sat for 15 minutes in a hot sitz bath 3x per day for 3 days with essential oils and epson salts. I also mixed the essential oil combo with coconut oil and applied to the cyst after bathing. The marble-sized cyst reduced in size and went away permanently.

Taking 3-4 times sitz bath for 10-15mins during a day is not really practical option for many (like those who works in a office!). Sitz bath time/day possible. Does this treatment work then?
Do you know where I can purchase a bottle of mixed and prepared potion for trying out?

My question: Do you know anybody who has tried this sitz bath with the essential oil treatment just one time per day and still got results? If so, how soon did they see any change?
Thanks a bunch for all your suggestions. I had Bcyst 10years back and then 4 times last 12 months. Each time they came and gone on their own and did now swell much. This last time it remained for 2 months, increased in size and showed no chance to go. Reading your site - I tried taking sitz bath 2 times a day (morning and night) with 1/2 cup of epsom salt and 10drops of Lavendar essential oil. Then I applied lavender oil with little bit of a generic version of vagisil cream to keep it in place. I also took 1 tablet of anacin (it is a blood thinner). In exactly 2 days (4 sitz bath) later the cyst discharged on its own and GONE!!!! :)
