Birch oil, Adirondack

Birch oil ( Betula lenta )

Commonly known as Sweet Birch or Birch Bark oil this distillation from the Adirondack in Canada is believed to be the only authentic birch oil available on the world market today. Chemically Birch oil is an Ester and almost 99% methyl salicylate and should only be used in very weak dilutions of 1% or less. Much more complex than your typical birch oil the essential oil is obtained by macerating the bark which has been soaked in warm water for 10-12 hours before distillation. As the essential oil does not occur in the living tissue of the plant it cannot be considered "wholly natural."

For a Soothing Bath Experience blend 1 drop each of Birch Oil, Sweet Marjoram, and Lavender and mix into a carrier of half cup each of Epson Salt (muscle relaxant, detoxifier) and Baking Soda (skin softener) to disperse the oils in your bath water.

Birch oil's powerful anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic action makes it a useful addition in a sports massage oil blend for relieving muscular aches and pain, and helpful for relieving tension in the upper back, neck, and lower back areas.

RELAXING COMPRESS - to relax sore, tense or cramped muscles. Excellent for topical application to ease pain from strained muscles, menstrual cramps, etc. Disperse 1 drop each of Birch, Sweet Marjoram and Cypress oil in a teaspoon of cream or honey and add to a small stainless steel bowl of “HOT” water. Absorb the "HOT" water into a wash cloth, using protective gloves, wring out excess water and apply compress to area of discomfort, may repeat application when your cloth cools, or cover the warm cloth compress with a plastic sheet or towel to keep it "HOT" longer.

Use Birch oil along with Helichrysum for pain relief from sprains and strains, and to speed healing and prevent scar tissue formation.

HEALING MASSAGE OIL: To a 1 ounce dispensing bottle of pure light coconut oil add 1 drop Birch Oil, 8 drops Sweet Marjoram, 2 drops Helichrysum, 2 drops Peppermint and 2drops Lavender. Shake well to disperse your essential oils in the carrier oil. For best results allow to synergize for 24 hours or more before using.

BLEND WITH: Black Pepper, Cinnamon, Clary Sage, Eucalyptus, Ginger, Sweet Marjoram, Cypress, Helichrysum, Lavender, Peppermint

CAUTION: Its high methyl salicylate content (99%) makes Birch Oil harmful in high concentrations, use in weak dilutions of 1% or less as it is absorbed quickly by the skin. Avoid in pregnancy and lactation, with babies and children. Avoid with sensitive or damaged skin.
