"ASHLAND, Ore. -- A new study traces a connection between conventional and unconventional medical treatments.

More people are using what's called "complimentary medicine", which is the combination of traditional treatments with alternative treatments like acupuncture, massage, and aromatherapy in addition to their traditional treatments.

As complimentary therapy is on the rise across the U.S., Southern Oregon is no different.

Ashland Community Hospital offers four different types of complimentary treatments; treatments that are offered in addition to their normal care.

They offer guided imagery on a CD, which is music that helps relax patients, aromatherapy, massage therapy and rake (rake-ee) or healing hands therapy. They have offered these additional treatments for about four years, but say it's become much more popular lately.

They say about 50 to 60% of their hospital and their home care and hospice patients take advantage of their complimentary therapy treatments.

They hope to continue to add more services in the future."
